The catalog “Tricolor”, which accompanied the temporary exhibition of the same name, maps and indexes, albeit incompletely yet coherently, a wide variety of representations of the tricolor in artworks, objects, and photographs, starting from the late 19th century up to the present day. From the works of Gheorghe Tattarescu (“Romania Unchained,” 1866) to those of Daniel Djamo (“Who’s Afraid of Blue, Yellow and Red,” 2015), from images of the flag of the United Romanian Principalities during the reign of Prince Carol I (approx. 1866) to pictures from the protests of August 10, 2018, “Tricolor” will present both within the exhibition and in the eponymous catalog the outcomes of this investigation carried out in a playful yet serious manner.
